Moving a hot tub is not easy. True, it weighs much less when empty than when full of water, but if you want to move it from one end of your garden to the other, you need to be prepared. Here's how to move your Buenospa hot tub safely.
How to move a hot tub - Step 1: Necessary Tools and Equipment
If you want to move your hot tub you will need some necessary tools and equipment, which you can easily get from from any major hardware store. Let’s, what you will need:
- Furniture dollies (2 or 3)
- Wooden planks (4x4 or 2x4 for leverage)
- Moving straps
- Several strong helpers
- A truck with a ramp (if moving to a new location)
Having these tools will make the process smoother and safer and of course easier. Ask a few people from the neighbourhood or family to help and then it's really child's play.
How to move a hot tub - Step 2: Disconnect the Hot Tub
It is very important that before you move the hot tub, it must be turned off. After you turned off the hot tub and disconnect all electrical and plumbing connections, you should unplug it from the power source. Be sure to carefully drain the water from it using a hose. Check the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure you handle the equipment correctly. Once you've done that, it's time for the next step, which is not yet moving, but you're close!
Step 3: Plan the Moving Route
Walk through the moving route and make sure it's clear of obstacles. If you're moving it through narrow doorways, gates, or up stairs, you may need to measure to ensure it will fit. For outdoor moves, clear the path of rocks, plants, and other debris that could obstruct the process. Avoid slippery surfaces and hard-to-reach places.
Step 4: Lift the Hot Tub onto Dollies
With the help of your friends or family members, use the wooden planks as leverage to lift one side of the hot tub. Once you have lifted one side high enough, slide the furniture dollies underneath. Place one dolly under each side of the hot tub so it’s evenly supported. If your hot tub is particularly large, you may need to use additional dollies for better weight distribution. It may seem difficult at first, but trust me, it's easy to do with one simple move.
Step 5 and Step 6: Secure and move the Hot Tub
Once the hot tub is positioned on the dollies, use moving straps to secure it. This will prevent the hot tub from shifting while you’re transporting it. Double-check that the hot tub is balanced and won’t tip over.
If everything is okay, you can carefully roll the hot tub along the pre-determined route. Take your time to avoid any sudden movements that could damage the hot tub or injure the movers. If you need to move the hot tub into a truck, ensure the ramp is securely attached, and slowly push the hot tub up the ramp. You can also ask for special help, as it's better to have your hot tub delivered by someone who has done it 1000 times.
Step 7: Set Up at the New Location
Once you’ve transported the hot tub to its new location, remove the dollies by using the wooden planks to lift the tub. Reconnect the electrical and plumbing lines according to the manufacturer’s instructions, refill the hot tub with water, and test the unit to ensure everything works as it should. If everything went well and you followed our advice, then the hot tub is fine and you can enjoy the bubbles in your new place.
If you want to avoid possible damage to both yourself and your hot tub:
- Hire Professionals: If your hot tub is particularly large or you’re moving it a long distance, consider hiring professional movers. We know you're strong and fit, but leave it to the professionals to deliver.
- Use Proper Lifting Techniques: Avoid back injuries by bending your knees when lifting and asking for help with heavy lifting. This is essential for damage-free transport!
